A Latin Flamenco Christmas at The Golden Husk

The Golden Husk welcomes Daniel Martinez and his band Jarana to the stage on Saturday, December 2nd at 7:30 pm. The performance will feature Christmas favorites-old and new with a fusion of cultural rhythms, storytelling and dance.

Martinez, Flamenco guitar stylist, composer and teacher hails from Iquitos, Peru. Growing up surrounded by the ocean and the Amazon, Martinez first picked up the guitar as a young teen at the encouragement of his mother. He quickly discovered his natural talent for playing by ear and began taking his music seriously after moving to the United States to attend Union College in Lincoln in 2002 to study English as a second language. Martinez honed his skills through the mastery of classical guitar training and has won numerous national guitar competitions. He is a professor of guitar at Union College and has performed in South America, Canada and across the United States.

Martinez formed the band Jarana in 2009 to amplify the joy and energy of his music. The musicians of Jarana perform and teach from their home base Lincoln, Nebraska. All shows are family-friendly. Jarana’s music blends South American, African and Mediterranean beats such as Flamenco, Rumba and Salsa, accompanied with authentic, traditional instruments. Band members are natives of Peru, Mexico and the US.

“We are thrilled to share our Christmas spirit by welcoming Daniel Martinez and Jarana to The Golden Husk. Daniel is a favorite performer on our stage and the addition of his band Jarana will bring a new cultural experience to our community,” stated Dahn Hagge, Director of The Golden Husk.

Martinez will also conduct three artistic, educational workshops at Ord Public Schools on Friday, teaching students about Latin rhythms, musical instruments, history and cultural. This opportunity is made possible with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.”
