Celebrating Nebraska’s 150th Birthday at The Golden Husk

What’s the best way to celebrate our state’s 150th birthday? At The Golden Husk, we say by welcoming amazingly talented Nebraska artists to the stage to perform original songs and stories about the people, places and historical events that make Nebraska-The Good Life! Please join us for the Flatwater Highway concert on Saturday, November 18th at 7:30 p.m. at The Golden Husk in Ord.

To commemorate Nebraska’s 150th anniversary of statehood, Dr. Dan Holtz, a native of Omaha and former English professor of Peru State College, has written and produced a folk-style CD titled, All Original, All Nebraska. The collection of songs celebrates the Cornhusker State’s rich history with stories about people, places and events that have shaped our culture.  Examples of song titles include, The Rider’s Refrain, Homeward the Arrow’s Flight, Back to the Sandhills, Where’s the Beef, and The Sky’s No Limit-a song about Evelyn Sharp. Patrons will enjoy the experience with the musical talents of Flatwater Highway band members including Steffan Baker, Dan Holtz, Martin Huebert, Cindy Huebert, Ralph Brown and Eli Huebert. Another original member of the group, Julie Baker Anderson will not be able to perform so we are joyfully welcoming the next generation of the Baker family musicians to the stage, as Amanda Baker performs in Julie’s place.

“Flatwater Highway is very excited about and honored by the opportunity to perform at The Golden Husk and to share original music and stories about Nebraska history during our state’s Sesquicentennial year. Dan Holtz and Steffan Baker, the band’s two members who were raised in Ord, fondly recall seeing many movies in the theater when they were kids, and to have the opportunity to perform in this beautiful, present-day facility is a great pleasure.”

Tickets are on sale now for $15 per person at The Golden Husk, (308)730-8133 and the Ord Area Chamber of Commerce, (308)728-7875.
