Funding for Energy Efficiency Improvements

Could your business benefit from energy efficiency improvements?  Grants and guaranteed loan funds are available through USDA Rural Development for renewable energy systems and energy efficiency improvements which can benefit farmers, ranchers, and small rural businesses.

Renewable energy funds can be used for anaerobic digesters, biomass, bioenergy, solar panels, wind turbines, geothermal, and hydrogen projects.  Energy efficiency improvement funds can be used for numerous improvements including the replacement of lighting or refrigeration systems in commercial buildings, the installation of HVAC equipment, adding insulation, retrofitting, and replacing inefficient windows and doors.

Farmers and ranchers can utilize these funds for replacing inefficient irrigation systems, grain dryers, or shop buildings.  Your business can receive up to $250,000 with an energy efficiency grant and up to $500,000 with a renewable energy grant.  The maximum guaranteed loan amount is $10 million.  This year’s application deadline is June 15 for both loans and grants.

You can download a fact sheet regarding these programs here.  If your business is interested in any of these programs, contact Kelley Messenger at the Kearney area office at (308) 237-3118 ext. 1120 to determine eligibility and for an application form.  You can also visit USDA Rural Development’s website for more information.
