The Valley County Health System is a member of the Nebraska Association of Hospitals and Health Systems. The hospital offers outpatient services, acute care, 24-hour emergency room, hospice, home health, radiology, laboratory, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, coronary intensive care unit, computerized electrocardiogram analysis, sports medicine, wellness center, CT scanner, mammogram, ultrasound, chemo-therapy, echocardiogram, vascular studies, sleep studies, and paramedic and ambulance services. Specialty clinics include encoscopy, dietary, nuclear medicine, MRI, cardiology, orthopedics, ear nose and throat, urology, cataract surgery, podiatry and obstetrics and gynecology. On December 1, 2001 Valley County Health System became a Critical Access Hospital. This program was adopted by Nebraska in 1997. It allows for a different method of Medicare payment to small rural hospitals. In addition, it provides Valley County Hospital more flexibility so they may operate more efficiently and better meet the needs of their patients.
The Valley County Hospital van is available to provide transportation Monday
through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents in Ord and surrounding communities

Valley County Health System is goverened by a 5-person Board of Trustees. Members of this board serve five year terms and

Ord Family Health Center is owned by the Valley County Hospital and provides a wide range of services which include: internal medicine, pediatric care, gynecological care, geriatric care, total family healthcare services, health screens, minor emergency care, minor surgical care, occupational health, obstetric services, physicals and preventative care, x-ray, laboratory services and sports medicine services. Office hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 am - Noon. The Burwell Medical Clinic is open 8:30 am - 5:00 pm Mondays and Thursdays and 8:30 am to Noon on Fridays. This clinic is staffed by a Physician Assistant from Ord Family Health Center. For appointments call (308) 346-5442 or (800) 365-5247.
The North Loup Medical Clinic is open fom 9:30 a.m. to Noon on Tuesdays and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 pm. on Thursdays. The clinic is staffed by a Physician Assistant from Ord Family Health Center. For appointments call (308) 496-4464 or (800) 365-5247.
The Ericson Medical Clinic is staffed by a Physician Assistant from Ord Family Health Center. It is open from 9:30 a.m. to Noon on Mondays. Appointments can be made by calling (308) 653-3174.
The Loup City Family Health Center will open on January 9, 2006. The address is 708 O Street. It is staffed by a physician and physician assistant from Ord Family Health Center. To make an appointment, call (308) 745-0324.
Valley County Hospital Home Health provides the following services: registered nursing, social work, IV therapy, home health aide, diabetic education, physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. These services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance companies. Private duty services are available for patients not meeting Medicare and Medicaid guidelines. Services are available in Valley, Garfield, Sherman, Howard, Greeley, Loup, Custer and Wheeler Counties.
Hospice care is also available for terminally ill patients and their families. Criteria for hospice service are: patient and family are aware of the patient's diagnosis and prognosis, the patient has a limited life expectancy of six months or less if the disease runs it's normal course, and the care has become palliative rather than curative. The Home Health/Hospice office is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 400 South 23rd Street, Ord, NE. A registered nurse is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by calling (308) 728-3114.
The Valley County Nursing Home, accredited by the state of Nebraska,
has a total capacity to 70 beds. Services offered include 24-hour licensed
nursing care, restorative nursing care, social services, physical therapy,
cardiopulmonary services, and an activities program. Doctors visit the nursing

Dr. Jennifer L. Bengston, MD joined the medical staff of Valley County Health System in August 2003. She received her medical doctor degree from University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska in 2000. Dr. Bernard Keown, MD received his medical doctorate degree in 1978 from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, where he also completed his residency.
