THE ORD NEBRASKA

It’s Been Awhilst

Hear the sound of crickets around here lately? We’ve been under a deluge of project activity lately with very little room to wiggle. Blogging and news updates from our neck of the woods have been sparse to say the least. We aim to rectify that situation.

First, I would like to take the time this Good Friday to bring our readers up to speed on the latest news in the neighborhood. If you’ve been downtown lately, you’ll notice quite a few renovation projects currently in progress – we should also be set to make an announcement next week as well. Many changes are coming to our downtown, and most of them are good ones. We’ve uploaded a slew of renovation photos online for your viewing pleasure. As the famous Bob Barker used to say, “Feast your eyes over here!”

Additionally, we’re rolling out new features on the website which include a new Business Directory, new Calendar of Events, new Job Opportunities listings and the Local Weather. Yes, even the weather is too important for us to ignore any longer! These new features are part of a new Chamber management platform we’re using called ChamberMaster. The Chamber staff and myself included think it’s a pretty sweet platform that will allow us much great flexibility in updating our more searched pages. An additional feature includes member-only access that will allow our Chamber members the ability to talk directly to their customers using www.ordnebraska.com.

On another topic, I’d also like to thank our Ord High School students, faculty, Ord City Utilities employees, Ord City Council and Fort Hartsuff staff for their help in the park clean-up project held this past Wednesday. A little elbow grease goes a long way in making our parks sparkle like the gems they are. I was able to slide out and take few photos of the effort, but KNLVradio.com has much better coverage here.

If you read up on our post from last week, we mentioned that we’re forging ahead with a research project on the feasibility on a bike trail between Ord and Burwell. We’re going to even look at the possibility of taking the trail to the Calamus. Keep your fingers crossed.

Also, ExtraORDinary Days updates will begin to appear fairly regularly. We have quite a few new features to this year’s event, and LOTS of live music for entertainment. 2011 should be a great year for our community celebration.

Finally, we’re nearing interviewing candidates for our Business Development and Marketing Specialist position. We should have an announcement to make there fairly shortly as well – we have some great candidates and it’s going to be a competitive process to forge through.

I’ve said before 2011 is going to be an amazing year – so far the first 4 months have been right in line with that prediction! Here’s to Spring finally spronging!
