Missoula Children’s Theatre Coming to Valley County

An audition will be held for the Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) production of ALADDIN Monday, August 7th, 2017, at The Golden Husk from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The audition is open to youth in Valley County and surrounding communities. Those auditioning should arrive at 1:00 p.m. and plan to stay for the full two hours. Some of the cast members will be asked to stay for a two-hour rehearsal immediately following the audition.

Among the roles to be cast are Aladdin and his Mother; the Princess Dory and her father, the Sultan; along with his adviser the Grand Vizier; the keeper of the Book of Answers; Dinazade and her sister Scheherazade; the Mysterious One; some mischievous Genies; a stubborn Donkey; a spunky Goat; scheming Cassim; Ali Baba; Sinbad and his Sailors; wise-cracking Palm Trees and fleet-footed Camels; a Cave of Wonders; Vagabonds; and even a pack of lost Penguins. Students entering 1st grade through 12th grade are encouraged to audition and there are roles for up to 60 children. No advance preparation is necessary.  Assistant Directors will also be cast to aid in rehearsals throughout the week and to take on essential backstage responsibilities.

The Missoula Children’s Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup. MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals throughout the week from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day at The Golden Husk in Ord. A schedule of required rehearsals for each cast member will be available after auditions.

Three artistic workshops for youth will also be available during the week, including a workshop titled, Acting, which will teach the basic tools of an actor’s trade; an Improv workshop, teaching children to act without a script; and a Let’s Makeup workshop, teaching students of all ages by demonstration corrective, character and special effects makeup for the theatre. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project. Workshops will be scheduled on Tuesday through Thursday after rehearsals. A sign-up sheet for the workshops will be available at auditions.

All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales . . . a twist on the classic stories that you know and love. MCT’s mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.

ALADDIN will be presented on Saturday August 12th, 2017, with performances at 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at The Golden Husk. The Missoula Children’s Theatre residency is brought to you with the financial support and coordination of the Valley County Community Foundation Fund, The Golden Husk and the Wozab Legacy Fund.
