Ord Snow Removal Reminder

With several occurrences of snowfall behind us and the significant snow event anticipated tonight and tomorrow, the City of Ord kindly asked the VCED office to help inform residents and businesses of local snow removal policies.

All sidewalks within the business district must be cleared within five hours after the cessation of a storm unless the snowfall took place during the night, in which case the sidewalks must be cleared by 9:00 a.m. the following morning.

ResiWinter Storm Minnesotadential sidewalks must be cleared within 24 hours after the cessation of snowfall. In addition to the accumulation of snow, these policies are applicable to the accumulation of ice, sleet, and mud.

Lot owners or occupants may not deposit snow on any street or sidewalk when clearing their property. In some cases, such as the downtown business district, there are few alternatives aside from hauling snow to another location with a truck, trailer. etc. Ord Utilities Superintendent Paul Markowski asks that these individuals and businesses remove the snow from their properties in a timely manner so that it can be removed by the City’s snow plows. When snow is deposited in the street following the street’s clearing, adjacent property owners often suffer the results of snow and ice buildup in their gutters. Additional, snow deposited along the curb of a cleared street creates hazards for the patrons of our downtown business district.

Any questions regarding the City of Ord’s snow removal policy may be directed toward Ord City Hall at 308-728-5791.

The laws in Ord for snow removal have been improved sinceI grew up in Ord during the 40s and 50s.. When I was a kid, I used to go door-to-door and ask people if I could shovel their walks. Dr. Blessing hired me on a steady basis. So did Judge Ball and Mrs. Severson. Take care and keep up your good work!
