Professional Advisors Workshop a Success

Art of Charitable Giving Workshop Held in Ord

Thirty professional advisors from Valley County, Burwell, and Loup City participated in the Art of Charitable Giving workshop on November 16th at the Ord Central Community College Learning Center.   The workshop detailed gift planning tools and planned giving opportunities available to support local philanthropy.

Nebraska Community Foundation’ Gift Planning Director, Jim Gustafson presented information on the 2011 Transfer of Wealth Study which indicates over the next 50 years approximately $903 million will transfer from one generation to the next in Valley County.  Mr. Gustafson stated, “This scenario creates a unique opportunity for the people who care deeply about their communities to establish a legacy for the future of their hometowns by retaining a small portion of that wealth for philanthropic purposes.”

Mr. Gustafson also worked with advisors to identify many unique options for helping people with planned gifts to their communities through real estate, agriculture commodities, IRA’s, retirement plans, trust funds, and more.  The professional advisors attended the workshop over the noon hour and were provided a free lunch by local charitable organizations and the Central Community College Foundation.

“We are very fortunate to live in an area where generosity flourishes and our citizens are interested in supporting philanthropy.   Creating awareness and knowledge of the various opportunities for local charitable giving, not only helps people use their hard earned dollars to benefit their communities, but also instills a spirit of pride in community giving.  When people are willing to give back to their communities by contributing to endowments, they ensure a bright future for the place they call home,” said Dahn Hagge, coordinator of the Valley County Community Foundation Fund.   This workshop was made possible through a collaborative partnership among the Valley County Community Foundation Fund, the Valley County Health System Foundation, the Ord Township Library Foundation, the Ord Golf Course Foundation, the Ord-Arcadia TeamMates Chapter, the Central Community College Foundation, and the Nebraska Community Foundation!
