Promoting Valley County Destinations

The Valley County Tourism Committee is actively pursuing new opportunities to promote tourism in our county and region. Our area features phenomenal historical landmarks, adventurous recreation, hospitable businesses and unique experiences and the Valley County Tourism Committee is dedicated to actively and collaboratively promoting these offerings that attract travelers to our area and to local businesses.

What’s next?

Conversations will soon take place with communities along the Loup River Scenic Byway about the potential of developing a Byway travel guide. Any representative of a business or destination in Valley County that has a vested interest in attracting tourists to our area is more than welcome to share your thoughts and ideas with any member of the Valley County Tourism Committee and/or staff about this regional collaboration.

The Committee also supports and promotes various community events that take place throughout the year that attract visitors to our area. Such events include the new Nebraska Grown Arts Festival (April 28-29, 2017), annual Father’s Day Rod Run (June 17-18, 2017), and Valley County Fair (July 30 – August 5) among others.



The Valley County Tourism Committee also employs lodging tax proceeds to further promote the recreation and amenities in Valley County in publications that are distributed nationally such as Nebraska Life magazine (top photo below) and the Nebraska Tourism Commission’s travel guides (bottom photo below). Anyone interested in becoming involved in tourism efforts in Valley County that welcome visitors and boost our local economy is welcome to attend Valley County Tourism Committee meetings which take place on the second Monday of each month at 5:00 pm at the Valley County Visitors Bureau (1514 K Street, Ord). The Valley County Tourism Committee includes five representatives appointed by the Valley County Supervisors. The current Committee members include: Kelli VanSlyke, Chairman (Arcadia), Jane John, Vice Chairman (Ord), Deb Kelley, Secretary (Ord), Betty Carlson (North Loup) and Sharon Iwanski (Elyria).
