Sandstone Grill – January 2017 Chamber Spotlight

Tenise Jarecke and Tammy Pinckney are sisters who grew up in St. Paul, Nebraska.  After college they each left the state.  Tenise lived in Kansas City for 12 years and Tammy lived in Seattle for 8 years.  They were both looking for a way to move closer to home and they both had a passion for food.  In 2005 they were told about the empty location in downtown Burwell for a restaurant and a plan began to formulate.

After visiting Burwell and the surrounding areas they thought the menu they had in mind would bring a different spin to what is primarily “meat and potatoes country.”  They convinced their husbands to leave the cities for rural living and they opened Sandstone Grill in December 2005. They are now celebrating their 11 year anniversary.

The menu at Sandstone Grill brings a fresh viewpoint to the area with daily homemade soups, inventive sandwiches and six gourmet salads as well as locally raised beef for the burgers and steak menu.  They also offer a mix of smothered chicken dinners and seafood options.

Their business has grown each year during the 11 years they have been in business thanks to their innovative strategies for diversifying their business with catering services and selling their specialty dips and spices which are available in Burwell and Ord grocery stores.

Tenise and Tammy love serving the people of the area and they are also passionate about sourcing local ingredients as frequently as possible. Tenise shares, “All of our beef is raised in Nebraska.  Our bison is sourced from an organic ranch 50 miles north of Burwell.  We get Bibb lettuce from our friends in Ord and tomatoes and cucumbers from O’Neill.  We also have close relationships with the local grocery stores.”
