Save the Date: CYN Summit

Second-annual Connecting Young Nebraskans Summit is set for October

Connecting Young Nebraskans (CYN) is in the midst of preparing for its second-annual summit. With a Thursday evening social that includes glow golf and other fun, the 2011 Summit is set for Friday, October 28 at the Nielsen Center in West Point, Nebraska.

Last year’s summit attracted over 120 young Nebraskans from across the state.  CYN is a statewide network of Nebraskans, most of who are under 40, drawn from many different organizations and workplaces. CYN is a forward-looking organization that provides opportunities to share in shaping the state’s future through the collaboration of knowledge, insights and desires.

From roundtable discussions to dynamic speakers, the 2011 CYN Summit will feature various opportunities for professional, personal, civic and community development.  Keynote speakers Jeff Slobotski and Dusty Davidson, founders of the Silicon Prairie News, are an exciting duo that will help energize young Nebraskans. The summit will also provide a great networking platform through a social on Thursday night and active participation on Friday.

With attendance at the 2010 CYN Summit exceeding expectations, the CYN Steering Committee is confident that this year’s summit will be bigger and better.

“The 2010 Summit was a hit and the 2011 Summit will be every bit as energizing and engaging,” said CYN Coordinator Kayla Schnuelle of the University of Nebraska Rural Initiative.

“Building on last year’s success, I know that with all the young people working to organize this conference along with the state-of-the-art facilities in West Point, the 2011 Summit will again be a great event,” Schnuelle continued.

In an effort to ensure the success of the 2011 CYN Summit, the CYN steering committee turned to last year’s attendees for help. Through an online survey, CYN asked last year’s participants what they would like to see at this year’s summit.

With over 50 responses already submitted, the CYN Steering Committee is taking these responses to heart.

Wes Blecke, a member of the steering committee from Wayne and Director of Wayne Area Economic Development, is enthusiastic about CYN and the upcoming conference: “I am excited to again attend the CYN Summit to engage in conversations regarding the future of Nebraska. The connections I made at last year’s summit were incredible! While learning skills important to my own future development, I also learn things that will benefit my community and my state.”

Registration for the 2011 CYN Summit will open on August 15, 2011. For more information about CYN and the upcoming Summit, visit: or find us on Facebook at
