TeamMates Chapter Needs New Mentors

(Ord, NE) – Right now there are eight children waiting for mentors in the Ord area!  The Ord–Arcadia TeamMates Chapter is working to recruit local people who are interested in volunteering their time and talents as mentors.  Mentors are volunteers from the community who have dedicated themselves to making a difference in the life of a young person.  Mentors give youth a sense of hope, purpose, and vision.

The TeamMates Mentoring Program was founded by Tom and Nancy Osborne in 1991, in an effort to provide support and encouragement to school aged youth.  The goal of the program is to see youth graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. To reach this goal, youth meet one hour per week with a caring adult who serves as a mentor.

Currently, there is a friendly Coaches Challenge competition between the Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas football coaches tosee which state can recruit the most new mentors. The Ord-Arcadia chapter celebrated the Coaches Challenge at the Ord-Madison Football Game on Friday, October 21st.  The local chapter worked to recruit new mentors and mentees and celebrated current mentor/mentee matches with sweet treats, balloons, and an information booth!  With the community’sparticipation, our area can help support our local youth and contribute to the Husker’s success in the coaches mentor challenge competition.  Any new mentor application that is received by November 21, 2011 will count toward the “score” for Nebraska! By signing up to be a mentor, fans can not only show their state/team pride but can help improve the life of a child!

To sign up as a mentor or nominate a child as a mentee and to learn more about the local TeamMates Program, contact Dahn Hagge at 308-730-2294 or Rachel Lueck at 308-202-0118, or visit www.teammates.org.

Hi my name is Caryl VanSlyke I’m from Arcadia and a year ago I wanted to get into being a mentor to a child. I work at the school here in Arcadia as a para-educator/sped progam. Please let me know how/when I can sign up for mentoring.
