Transitions Being Discussed for ExtraORDinary Days Celebration

The Ord Area Chamber of Commerce is strategically planning the transition of the annual ExtraORDinary Days celebration which is usually scheduled during Memorial Day Weekend.  The Chamber’s ExtraORDinary Days Transition Committee has been working closely with the Valley County Fair Board and 4-H Council to discuss options for incorporating various ExtraORDinary Days events into the Valley County Fair including the duck race, kids fishing contest, and flea market, among others.  The purpose of this transition is for the Ord Area Chamber to assist with the promotion of the Valley County Fair and to utilize its resources to benefit the entire community, rather than coordinating an event specific to Ord.Chamber Logo

As a part of this transition process, the Chamber will not be scheduling a carnival to be in Ord over Memorial Day Weekend. Due to the high cost of carnivals during the county fair season, it is not feasible to reschedule a carnival during this year’s Valley County Fair. All parties involved will continue to work to find a reasonable solution for incorporating a carnival into the Valley County Fair in the future.  The Chamber of Commerce has committed to working closely with all communities to promote the special events of North Loup Popcorn Days, the Elyria Pumpkin Festival, and the Arcadia Fall Festival in which families, alumni, and our youth can enjoy.

The Chamber Board of Directors has been discussing a possible transition of ExtraORDinary Days throughout the past year.  The Chamber is working to focus funds, staff time, and volunteer time on the benefits that are directly related to commerce and the promotion of Chamber businesses. Several new projects which provide value for Chamber business members are currently being implemented, including a hard copy business directory and the new e-commerce solution, www.ShopOrd.com.  In order to focus on the projects that benefit the true mission of the Chamber, certain events must be reconsidered.  Comments from past surveys conducted by the Chamber of Commerce state that Chamber members do not feel ExtraORDinary Days activities directly benefit their business.
