VCHS Foundation – October 2014 Chamber Member Spotlight

In September 1990, a group of visionary leaders volunteered their time, talent and treasure to establish the Valley County Health System Foundation to ensure healthcare services remained available in our region for generations to come. Many caring volunteers have served on the VCHS Foundation board, volunteered at events and helped grow the organization throughout the years. The Foundation currently has a 16 member Board of Directors that is actively shaping the future of the organization.

Generous support from many individuals has contributed to a large number of projects and equipment needs at VCHS and grown the endowment fund.  Becky Ries, Executive Director for the VCHS Foundation states, “Being able to provide the fund requests from Valley County Health System are only possible through generous donations and support from our donors and it is only because of them that we have been successful in supporting VCHS for almost 25 years.”  A variety of donations including gifts of grain and livestock, life insurance, real estate, memorials and honorary gifts have helped to provide for the changing needs at VCHS. Donation-Chamber

“The VCHS Foundation is vitally important to the future of healthcare in this community because of the many unknowns and changes currently happening in the healthcare and insurance worlds.”  Supporting the Foundation through an unrestricted donation, or a donation to the endowment fund, assures funds are available when unexpected needs arise at Valley County Health System.

When commenting on the importance of buying locally and supporting our local community, Ries, stated “I believe that supporting healthcare close to home is extremely important.  Not only do we need to have emergency services available but access to family practice providers, specialty doctors, specialty physicians, rehabilitation, surgery and chemo therapy are all part of the reason we should come together and support Valley County Health System.  It is your health, your hospital and it is here to meet your needs. VCHS is the largest employer in the area, and in turn the associates at VCHS shop locally, pay taxes here and their support of local businesses is just as important as it is for our community to support us through the use of the healthcare services available at VCHS.  Caring for and supporting one another is truly what being part of a community is about.”  The VCHS Foundation is actively involved in the community and hosts many annual events including the golf tournament in July, a Neon Moon Run in the fall and their Gala in January.
