YES Creates Entrepreneurial Experiences for Youth

Local youth entrepreneurs have been finalizing their sales pitch, recording radio ads, designing displays and producing inventory during the past few weeks in preparation for the 2016 Youth Entrepreneur Showcase (YES) on Friday, January 29.  The annual event offers local youth the opportunity to develop their entrepreneurial skills, experience real world business scenarios and grow their business by selling products and services.

Six youth entrepreneurs will be open for business during the YES Marketplace from 3:30 – 6:30 pm during the Ord Wrestling Invite at Ord High School and community members are invited to attend. Youth businesses featured include: Emma’s Wrap Arounds, Grace’s Sweet Scrubs, Josie’s Speciality’s, KS Kreations, Shelby’s Custom Airbrushing and TJ’s Custom Decals. Their innovative products include hand-crafted accessories, embroidered products, hand-painted and airbrushed fishing lures, mailboxes and wall hangings, custom designed decals for windows, lockers and vehicles and all-natural sugar body scrubs.

In addition to the valuable business, leadership and communication experiences the youth entrepreneurs gain during the event, the top three winners will also receive seed money from the Valley County Community Foundation Fund to support the future growth of their business and one year of free membership from the Ord Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Ord Area Chamber of Commerce, Ord FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Chapter, Valley County Community Foundation Fund and Valley County Economic Development partner to provide the YES experience for local youth by offering real world entrepreneurial experiences and exposing them to the advantages of doing business in a rural community such as Valley County. Connections local youth entrepreneurs make with local professionals and interactions they have with local consumers may be the memorable experiences that entice them to remain in or return to our community in the future to continue or start a new business.
